On March 27, 2025, Professor Sameh Badie participated in a live interview with LiveNow from Fox, where he discussed the recently published report from the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) on the collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore, Maryland. The bridge collapsed on March 26, 2024, after a midsize containership lost power and crashed into one of the supporting piers.
The NTSB report faults the Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA) for not running a vulnerability assessment for possible bridge collapse due to a ship collision. Badie praised the NTSB report for pinning down the lack of collaboration between the stakeholders and MDTA and for recommending running a vulnerability assessment of 68 bridges in 19 states that have a high probability of collapse due to ship collisions.
