Rev Up Your Career: Accelerated Master’s Program

Earn your bachelor’s and master’s degrees in just five years—save time, reduce tuition, and launch your career ahead of the curve.

The Accelerated Master’s Program Advantage:

Designed exclusively for School of Engineering and Applied Science (GW Engineering) undergraduate students, our Accelerated Master’s Program allows you to seamlessly blend your undergraduate studies with advanced graduate coursework.

By starting your graduate classes during your senior year, you can earn both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in as little as five years.

Why Choose the Accelerated Master’s degree program?

  • Save Time: By double-counting six (6) credit hours of coursework and transferring up to six (6) credit hours of coursework into your graduate program students significantly lower the overall time required to complete the master’s degree program.
  • Save Money: Along with the cost savings from the double counted courses and transferred courses, all Accelerated Master’s program students will receive a 25% tuition discount applied to the remainder of the graduate degree program. In total, students save more than 60% on total tuition costs compared to a stand-alone Master’s degree at GW Engineering.
  • Less Stress: Streamlined admissions means no application fee, letters of recommendation or statement of purpose needed! GW Engineering undergraduate students with a 3.0 after the completion of their sixth semester of the bachelor’s program are guaranteed admission into the Accelerated Master’s Program through a simplified and tailored application process. For students with below a 3.0 GPA, your application will be reviewed by GW Engineering faculty to evaluate your academic growth, major coursework, and program readiness.
  • Continuity of Support: Stay in the labs, research facilities, and campus community you know, working alongside faculty members who already know you and are invested in your success.
  • Flexible Coursework: Customize your master’s degree program with options for course-based or thesis research options.
  • Elevate Your Earning Potential: Graduate with a specialized master’s degree that sets you apart in competitive job markets, leading to higher starting salaries and accelerated leadership pathways.

Program Timeline & Structure:

Junior Year: Explore & Plan

Meet with your faculty advisor to explore master’s program options and identify applicable graduate level courses you can enroll in during your senior year that can be double counted or transferred into the master’s degree program.

Senior Year: Apply & Complete coursework

  • Submit Application to Accelerated Master’s program: Apply during the fall or spring semester of your senior year. Applications for the Fall 2027 are due December 1, 2026.
  • Enroll in applicable coursework: Students in the Accelerated Master’s Program can double-count up to two graduate courses toward both degrees, as well as transfer in up to two additional graduate courses after completing their bachelor’s. If you haven’t yet enrolled in graduate-level coursework, you must register for these classes during your senior year.
  • Graduate with your Bachelor’s degree: Work with your undergraduate advisor to ensure completion of all bachelor's degree requirements and apply to graduate. After you’ve been cleared for graduation, you will return to GW Engineering as a master’s student.

Fifth Year & beyond: Complete Your Master’s program

Finish your remaining graduate coursework at your own pace. Pursue your master’s degree full-time to complete it in one year, or study part-time while you work.
