This position is part of the National Institute of Standards (NIST) Professional Research Experience (PREP) program. NIST recognizes that its research staff may wish to collaborate with researchers at academic institutions on specific projects of mutual interest, thus requires that such institutions must be the recipient of a PREP award. The PREP program requires staff from a wide range of backgrounds to work on scientific research in many areas. Employees in this position will perform technical work that underpins the scientific research of the collaboration.
Research Title:
Research Program Coordinator – AI & Forensic Science
The work will entail:
This position involves providing research and program management support for a variety of initiatives in AI, forensic sciences, and emerging technologies. The candidate will be responsible for coordinating and managing complex research and standards development projects, ensuring operational efficiency, and helping the program achieve its strategic goals. This role will also involve facilitating communication between internal teams, senior leadership, and external stakeholders, supporting documentation, budget tracking, scheduling, risk monitoring, and overall project coordination.
Key Responsibilities Will Include But Are Not Limited To:
- Coordinating and supporting complex meetings, workshops, and operations across multiple research and standards development projects.
- Providing strategic communications support, ensuring the alignment of program goals with senior leadership and key stakeholders.
- Assisting in the creation and management of project documentation, ensuring that all reports, plans, and deliverables are clearly communicated and archived.
- Tracking budgets and financial resources to ensure that the program stays on target and within scope.
- Managing schedules and timelines, ensuring that project milestones are met and that delays or risks are identified and mitigated.
- Monitoring and managing risks associated with research and standards development efforts.
- Serving as a key administrative liaison across various projects within the program, ensuring operational efficiency.
- Coordinating communications to support program objectives, helping ensure that program milestones and research advancements are communicated both internally and externally.
- Supporting the development and maintenance of a strategic roadmap that aligns with the program’s goals.
Qualifications:
- A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., Computer Science, Engineering, Psychology, Forensic Science, or related area).
- 10 years of experience in research program management, strategic communications, or a similar field.
- Strong experience with coordinating large, multifaceted projects involving multiple stakeholders.
- Familiarity with AI, forensic sciences, and/or other emerging technologies is preferred.
- Experience in tracking and managing budgets, timelines, and risk management processes.
- Excellent communication skills (both written and oral) with the ability to present complex information clearly to senior leadership.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
