Dr. Shih-kai Chung being officially named President of NTUA

GW Engineering and Computer Science Department alumni Dr. Shih-kai Chung was recently named the 12th president of the National Taiwan University of Arts (NTUA)! NTUA has the longest history of arts education in Taiwan and has consequently played a pivotal role in shaping the country’s vibrant artistic landscape.

NTUA welcomed Chung as their new president in August 2023. An article they shared that recaps his presidential address states, “he promised to exert his utmost effort, employ forward-thinking perspectives, innovative approaches, and cross-disciplinary resource integration to create a new realm of co-prosperity for the faculty, staff, and students.”

Chung earned his doctorate at GW Engineering under the mentorship of Professor James Hahn, as their research interests overlap. While NTUA president, Chung will continue to serve as a Professor in the Department of Multimedia and Animation Arts and conduct research on 3D computer graphics, computer animation, virtual reality, and multimedia design.

“My former students have won the Academy Award, been professors and deans at universities, and had other high achievements after graduation. Today, I am especially proud that Dr. Shih-kai Chung has been appointed the 12th president of the National Taiwan University of Arts,” said Hahn. “The achievements of our graduates show that GW Engineering prepares students for a wide range of career paths, not just in their narrow academic fields.”
