Engineering is at the forefront of innovation and is instrumental in designing and creating the solutions that are shaping the future. In 1951, the National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE) founded Engineers Week to commemorate how engineers make a difference in the world and spark curiosity in the next generation of innovators.
GW Engineering joined the more than a week-long celebration to honor our school’s community of budding and impactful engineers through a slew of events focused on boosting professional development, developing innovative engineering solutions, and strengthening the GW Engineering community from February 20th to March 2nd. The theme of this year’s National Engineers Week is “Welcome to the Future,” focusing on celebrating today’s achievements and paving the way for a brighter and more diverse future in engineering.
GW Engineering’s Engineers’ Council collaborated with staff in the Office of Undergraduate Student Services, Advising, and Records, and student organizations, such as GW’s Chapters of the National Society of Black Engineers, the Society of Women Engineers, GeorgeHacks, Engineers Without Borders, and many more, to coordinate these events. They began Engineers’ Week with the “I Love Engineering Kickoff” event where students, faculty, and staff could enjoy a cupcake social, take photos at a GW Engineering Selfie Wall, and learn more about the GW Innovation Center at their pop-up.
The 2024 Engineers Week celebration will culminate in the E-Council’s annual Engineers’ Ball on Saturday, March 2. The GW Engineering community will come together to celebrate the achievements they made throughout the school year. To continue celebrating, innovating, and connecting with fellow GW Engineers all year long, follow the E-Council on Instagram (@gwecouncil) to learn more about future events.
