Viva Voce: Faculty Voices
The Office for Diversity, Equity and Community Engagement's (ODECE) inaugural Viva Voce: Faculty Voices will take place on Monday, October 16th, from 1:00 pm- 2:30 pm in the MSSC (USC 5th Floor) featuring Dr. Maranda Ward.
Viva Voce: Faculty Voices draws inspiration from the griots of West Africa to the Indigenous storytellers who hold language and traditions in their words, to many ancient cultures that have used storytelling as a way to create connection, bridge cultural divides, and overall, remember their history. This space was created to honor the importance of word-of-mouth storytelling that lies with the living voices, or viva voce, which for centuries has allowed for lessons to be passed down through generations within marginalized communities. Please join us as we learn from Dr. Ward's story, research, and community work. Light refreshments will be provided!
