To kick off a new academic year, Dean John Lach hosted a GW Engineering Staff Town Hall where he presented on the State of the School. The presentation summarized the school’s current progress and shared where we aim to go from here, with time for staff to ask any questions they may have. Town halls began during the pandemic as a way to keep staff up-to-date and will be made an annual event moving forward.
Despite major hurdles over the past three years, Dean Lach’s presentation demonstrated our school has continued to make amazing progress thanks to the work of GW Engineering’s dedicated and skilled staff. For example, in its current list of online program rankings, published in January, U.S. News & World Report ranked GW Engineering as the 12th best online graduate engineering program in the country, tied with Texas A&M University and the University of Florida. Then, in June, GW joined the prestigious Association of American Universities, which recognizes GW’s leading research, education, and innovation.
Dean Lach also further explained the school’s new brand identity, “Engineering And…,” so staff may best describe the strengths of GW Engineering, such as high-quality education and high-impact research, to leverage our competitive advantages and diverse community. He explained that the “Engineering And…” mindset drives GW Engineering to partner with other GW schools and colleges, companies, and government agencies around DC and the world to connect engineering to other disciplines and responsibly translate innovations to society.
