This position is part of the National Institute of Standards (NIST) Professional Research Experience (PREP) program. NIST recognizes that its research staff may wish to collaborate with researchers at academic institutions on specific projects of mutual interest and thus requires that such institutions be the recipient of a PREP award. The PREP program requires staff from a wide range of backgrounds to work on scientific research in many areas. Employees in this position will perform technical work that underpins the scientific research of the collaboration.
Research Title:
Artificial intelligence research and evaluation programs.
The work will entail:
Supporting the NIST artificial intelligence research and evaluation programs.
Key responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
- Assist in finalizing and disseminating the program’s publications or other written work products.
- Assist with adjudicating public comments related to NIST’s Zero Draft Pilot Project, or other deliverable comment periods, and periodically prepare written analysis of the feedback for the project team’s review.
- Support investigations about program related activities through empirical research.
- Support senior leaders in analyzing and reviewing a variety of sources including media reports and legislation for the impact on the NIST artificial intelligence program.
Qualifications
- Current student or recent college graduate with a social science or related major.
- Understanding of American government and politics.
- Familiarity with empirical research methods.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
