November's Local Hero: Jas Jefferies

From our facilities, to our technology, to supporting events, the staff at GW Engineering keeps our school moving forward. The Office of Graduate Admissions and Student Services at GW Engineering fosters academic, professional, and personal growth for all our graduate students. Graduate Professional Advisor, Jas Jefferies, is a key part of this process. Read below to learn more about November’s Local Hero, Jas Jefferies!:

Q: How long have you been working at GW and what is your position?
A: I’ve working at GWU for about 2.5 years now. I serve as a Graduate Professional Advisor for the GW Engineering Office of Graduate Admissions and Student Services.

Q: What led you to this career?
A: I became a Resident Advisor in college and have loved working with students ever since. I got my M.Ed. in Higher Education Administration and have been working in higher education for about 6 years now.

Q: Why did you choose GW?
A: I chose GWU for a new start! I never lived or worked on the East Coast before so this position was a new chapter for me.

Q: What is one thing you wish you’d known when you started working at GW?
A: One thing I wish I would’ve known when first working here: don’t go to the GW deli during lunch hours, but everything around that, lol.

Q: What is your favorite part about working at GW Engineering?
A: My team has been great to work with. We all get along really well and have great relationships with one another. I feel like we all have the same team goals and actually share them, which is nice.

Q: Why would someone want to work at GW Engineering?
A: There’s a lot of change happening at GW Engineering, which I think can be exciting to be a part of. Especially as the field is changing a lot, with AI for example, it’s an exciting time to be around engineers.

Q: What is your biggest work pet peeve?
A: My biggest work pet peeve: sending emails after 5 pm.

Q: What’s your ideal way to spend the weekend?
A: My ideal way to spend a weekend: go to a new museum or free event in DC!

Q: What's one of your favorite memories from the past year?
A: My favorite memory this past year was attending and supporting our students in the 3MT Competition.

Q: Tell us something people don’t know about you.
A: I am a HUGE Beyoncé fan. Or maybe some do know this about me? Lol.

Q: Do you have any pets?
A: I really, really wish I did because I am a huge furry friend lover! But I sadly do not.
