Every person in the GW Engineering community contributes to the fabric and culture of what makes us great and unique. As an institution of higher education, we often celebrate the achievements of our students and faculty. However, without the tireless work of GW Engineering staff, nothing would be possible. From our facilities, to our technology, to supporting our events, the staff at GW Engineering keeps our school moving forward. Each month we will highlight one staff member in our Local Hero editorial feature. Take the time to meet the people who are at the foundation of our school.
The Development and Alumni Relations Team at GW Engineering engages with alumni to keep them up-to-date on happenings in the school, help them find faculty or access alumni benefits, guide them to recruiting and/or career information, and help them stay or get connected with GW Engineering. Development Assistant Anna Berman is a key part of this process. Read below to learn more about November’s Local Hero, Anna Berman! :
Q: How long have you been working at GW and what is your position?
A: I have been working as the Development Assistant for 1 and a half years.
Q: What led you to this career?
A: I enjoy collaborating and working towards one common goal. I started my fundraising career in museums, but I always valued my University experience and wanted to support students in theirs as well. I find it rewarding to see the results of your work whether that be new chairs of funding for a new program.
Q: Why did you choose GW?
A: I appreciated the diverse community at GW. There are also so many opportunities and exciting initiatives.
Q: What is one thing you wish you’d known when you started working at GW?
A: The Science & Engineering Hall is much bigger than I originally thought! I still have yet to go to the greenhouse.
Q: What is your favorite part about working at GW Engineering?
A: I enjoy working with so many different departments and I learn something new every day.
Q: Why would someone want to work at GW Engineering?
A: The close-knit community and to be around people who are creating a better future.
Q: What is your biggest work pet peeve?
A: Both the Finance and Communications Team moved desks so they are now further away from me.
Q: What’s your ideal way to spend the weekend?
A: I advocate for the 4-day week so, in my opinion, the ideal weekend is three days – on Friday you rest and recuperate, on Saturday you see friends and have fun, and on Sunday you do chores around the house.
Q: What's one of your favorite memories from the past year?
A: Attending the R&D Showcase and learning about all the amazing student projects.
Q: Tell us something people don't know about you.
A: I lived in Kenya for a bit as a child.
