Publications:
Prof. Michael Keidar (MAE) was invited to prepare and edit a special issue on plasma medicine in Plasma Physics, the leading journal in the field. He published a review paper in the issue, “Experimental approaches for studying non-equilibrium atmospheric plasma jets,” as well as the preface.
Prof. Claire Monteleoni (CS) and her doctoral student, Cheng Tang, have published the following article: C. Tang and C. Monteleoni. “Can Topic Modeling Shed Light on Climate Extremes?” IEEE Computing in Science and Engineering, November/December 2015.
Conferences & Presentations:
Prof. Shelly Heller (CS) presented “The Status of Slovenian Women in Science” at the Gender Summit 7, held November 6-7 in Berlin, Germany. This study established a baseline from which the Slovenian scientists can judge the changes (increases) in the number and position of Slovenian women in science and the resources for them.
Prof. Lance Hoffman (director, Cyber Security Policy and Research Institute) chaired the Right to be Forgotten workshop at the Amsterdam Privacy Conference on October 25. He also met with a number of Chinese cybersecurity educators and officials in Beijing on October 27 to discuss cybersecurity education.
On November 11, Prof. Ekundayo Shittu (EMSE) gave a presentation titled “Uncertainties and Reorganization in Vaccine Supply Chains to Estimate Performance and Storage Requirements: Evidence from Nigeria” at the just-concluded 8th Global Health Supply Chain Summit, held in Dakar, Senegal. This is an output of the joint collaboration between GW, LMI and the International Vaccine Access Center (IVAC) of Johns Hopkins University.
Prof. Volker Sorger (ECE) presented a paper titled “From Creativity to Innovation” on October 29 at the 3rd Annual Conference of the Asian Council of Small Business. The conference was held in Miri, Malaysia.

SEAS Student R&D Showcase: the application and abstract deadline to participate in the showcase has been extended to Monday, November 16. The showcase is open to all SEAS undergraduate and graduate students, and $38,000 in prizes will be awarded in the following categories:

Samuel Klein, a GW graduate who conducted research at GW’s Cyber Security Policy and Research Institute, published the article “The Data Is in the Details: Cross-Border Data Flows and the Trans-Pacific Partnership: How will the TPP impact cross-border data flows, the lifeblood of the modern Internet” in the November 23 issue of The Diplomat.
The GW Institute for Biomedical Engineering (GWIBE) announces the 2015-2016 call for proposals from faculty and undergraduates:
The GWIBE Undergraduate Research Fellowship was established to foster undergraduate research in biomedical engineering mentored by a faculty member. Each recipient receives a $5,000 stipend. Proposals are due November 30, 2015. More information and application guidelines
Faculty: The GWIBE Interdisciplinary Research Fund is designed to support pilot research that involves synergistic collaborations in science, engineering, and medicine. Each award may be up to $20,000. Proposals are due November 30, 2015. More information and application guidelines

MATLAB workshops and tutoring: SEAS Computing Facility is holding a series of workshops covering MATLAB programming in Tompkins 406 from November 14 through December 5:
- November 14: Introduction & Linear Algebra
- November 21: Figures, 3D Plotting, and Equation Solving
- December 5: ODE Solving and SIMULINK
