What problem does this project tackle?

HouseMatch addresses the inefficiencies in the home-searching process, particularly the lack of personalization, time-consuming searches, and limited access to relevant property information. Traditional real estate platforms often require users to manually sift through numerous listings that do not align with their unique needs, leading to frustration and wasted time. Additionally, students searching for campus housing face limited digital platforms that provide tailored recommendations. HouseMatch leverages AI and machine learning to provide personalized property matches, making the search process more efficient, accurate, and user-friendly.

Who experiences this problem in the world?

The problem affects individuals seeking residential properties, particularly college students looking for campus housing and renters in search of suitable homes. These users often struggle to find housing that meets their specific preferences due to the overwhelming number of listings and lack of customized recommendations. Additionally, landlords experience difficulty connecting with the right tenants, leading to prolonged vacancy periods and inefficient rental processes. HouseMatch aims to bridge this gap by providing a data-driven platform that benefits both home seekers and property owners.

Why is this problem important?

The inefficiencies in the home-search process lead to wasted time, stress, and difficulty in securing housing, which can significantly impact individuals quality of life. Students, in particular, face housing insecurity due to the lack of tailored digital platforms that cater to their unique needs. By solving this issue, HouseMatch enhances the housing search experience, reduces uncertainty, and improves accessibility to relevant property information, ultimately benefiting the broader real estate ecosystem.

What specific technical problems did you encounter:

One of the key technical challenges involves developing and fine-tuning the recommendation algorithm to ensure it delivers accurate and personalized property matches.

Describe the coolest thing about your project:

The coolest thing about HouseMatch is its intuitive, Tinder-like interface that makes searching for a home as simple as swiping left or right. Unlike traditional home-search platforms, HouseMatch continuously learns from user behavior, refining recommendations over time to become increasingly accurate. This driven approach transforms the home-finding experience into a dynamic and engaging process while providing real-time property analytics, ensuring users always have access to the most up-to-date and relevant listings.

Describe any sustainable design considerations driving your solution:

HouseMatch promotes sustainability by encouraging efficient property utilization and reducing housing vacancies. By matching tenants with suitable homes more quickly, the platform helps minimize wasted resources associated with prolonged vacancies, such as energy and maintenance costs. Additionally, our data-driven approach reduces unnecessary travel and in-person visits by presenting users with highly relevant property options, lowering the carbon footprint associated with house-hunting.
