Erin Vogt

Q: How long have you been working at GW, and what is your position?
A: I’ve been at GW Engineering for 8 years and currently serve as the Director of Graduate Recruitment and Admissions.

Q: What led you to this career?
A: I’ve always been drawn to education, travel, and working with people. Over the years, I’ve worked in undergraduate admissions, graduate admissions, and international student mobility, and my current role is a great blend of all of those things.

Q: Why did you choose GW?
A: GW just checked all the boxes for me–location, global focus, strong programs–and it’s a lot easier and more rewarding to do this work when you genuinely believe in what you are promoting!

Q: What is one thing you wish you'd known when you started working at GW?
A: What a roller coaster graduate admissions would become! I’ve always liked that while some things stay the same in this work, there are always new challenges, too…But I think we could slow down on the challenges for a little while.

Q: What is your favorite part about working at GW Engineering?
A: The people. I work with a really great, supportive team. Everyone is hardworking, friendly, and understands the unique chaos of admissions season.

Q: Why would someone want to work at GW Engineering?
A: I think our school is a great fit for people who like fast-paced environments, working with a diverse student population, and are willing to jump in and help build and improve things.

Q: What is your biggest work pet peeve?
A: Overly complicated processes. If it can be simpler, it probably should be.

Q: What’s your ideal way to spend the weekend?
A: A mix of family time, getting outside, and starting projects around the house, which I rarely ever finish.

Blaze

Q: What's one of your favorite memories from the past year?
A: We took our kids to Mexico last summer, and for two of them, it was their first time using their passports, which was very exciting. It was also a good reminder that planning a trip with three kids is much easier than actually taking the trip.

Q: Tell us something people don’t know about you.
A: In my 20s, I used to ride motorcycles. I eventually scared myself out of it after a couple of years, but it was fun while it lasted!

Q: Do you have any pets?
A: Yes, we have a dog named Blaze. I hoped he would be a good guard dog, but when anyone so much as makes eye contact with him, he rolls over for scratches.
