Professor Howie Huang's research spans graph and AI algorithms, computer systems, and architecture, with a primary focus on developing high-performance computing and machine learning techniques tailored for large-scale graph datasets. Through his GraphLab, he explores novel applications of graph-based knowledge discovery across cybersecurity, social networks, and healthcare.
His work has been supported by the National Science Foundation (NSF), the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), and the Department of Defense (DoD), alongside leading industry partners such as Raytheon, IBM, NVIDIA, and Comcast. A recipient of the prestigious NSF CAREER Award, Prof. Huang has published over 130 technical papers in premier conferences and journals, earning numerous best paper awards and nominations.
In addition to his research, Prof. Huang has served as an Associate Editor for IEEE Transactions on Parallel and Distributed Systems (TPDS) and IEEE Transactions on Cloud Computing (TCC). His editorial contributions were recognized with the 2020 IEEE TCC Editorial Excellence and Eminence Award and the 2021 IEEE TPDS Award for Editorial Excellence.
