On August 16, over 150 first-year students, accompanied by GW Engineering staff, peer mentors, and faculty, gathered at River Riders Family Adventure Resort in West Virginia for the highly anticipated New Student Getaway. This annual event, organized by the SEAS Student Peer Advisory Network (SEASSPAN) in collaboration with the GW Engineering Office of Undergraduate Studies and Student Success, is designed to welcome new students into the vibrant GW Engineering community.
With options like whitewater rafting, hiking, and ziplining, this day was full of exciting outdoor activities that encouraged adventure and camaraderie and allowed students to connect with their peers and faculty in a relaxed, natural setting. Altogether, the getaway provided an ideal environment for students to build friendships and foster a sense of belonging as they embark on their undergraduate studies.
The getaway’s success was a collaborative effort fueled by significant contributions from both SEASSPAN advisors and the student engagement team. Their careful planning and coordination not only resulted in a day packed with lasting memories and budding friendships but also set the stage for a supportive and engaging academic journey at GW Engineering.
