In the article "GW Students Found Interdisciplinary STEM Magazine," GW Today highlights the new student-led interdisciplinary science magazine, The Catalyst, founded by Yair Ben-Dor, B.S. ’25, and Aidan Schurr, a junior pursuing a B.S. in biomedical engineering and pre-med studies. Ben-Dor and Schurr's inspiration for The Catalyst stemmed from the desire to reframe what it means to be a STEM student in Washington, D.C., and to build a community of like-minded innovators. Some of the pieces they've published so far include profiles on Holden Thorp, a professor of chemistry at GW, and Tyler Wyka, B.S. '24, M.S. '25, a mechanical engineering student at GW.

Here is an excerpt from the article: "In the year since the Catalyst was launched by a small group of friends, nearly four times as many students have become involved. Writers and artists for the magazine work on a volunteer basis, some attending other colleges and universities, most of them in the D.C. area."
