Every year, members of GW Engineering’s Biomedical Engineering (BME) Department travel to the Biomedical Engineering Society’s (BMES) Annual Meeting to gather with the BME community for networking, education, and continued growth in the BME field. The 2023 BMES Annual Meeting took place in Seattle, Washington, from October 11th to 14th, featuring over 140 colleges, universities, and institutes nationwide.

Ph.D. student Xinyu Shi presenting

During the meeting, GW Engineering set up a booth to engage with prospective graduate and undergraduate students as well as potential faculty members. GW Engineering students also contributed to the knowledge shared at the meeting by showcasing their innovative research in poster presentations. Ph.D. student Xinyu Shi presented on "Transparent and Stretchable Gold-coated Silver Nanowires Recording Microelectrode Arrays," while Master's student Alexis Carmine presented on "Ultrasound Modulation of Melatonin Release.”

The theme for the 2023 meeting focused on the convergence of three pillars essential to the BME field’s success: Science, Technology, and Social Transformation. Through technical poster presentations such as Shi’s and Carmine’s and other creative programming focused on DEI, BMES ensured these three pillars were interwoven into all aspects of the meeting. The next BMES Annual Meeting is scheduled for October 23-26, 2024 in Baltimore, Maryland. Don't miss this opportunity to network, learn, and contribute to this vital professional development event for the BME community!
