Athens Roundtable

Thu, 30 November, 2023 10:00am - 3:30pm
Fri, 1 December, 2023 10:00am - 3:30pm

The 2023 rise of general-purpose AI systems, including foundation models and generative AI, have heightened concerns about AI development, deployment and governance. This transformation has triggered a host of repercussions, including increased concentration of power by big technology corporations, shifts in geopolitical dynamics, regulatory capture, pervasiveness of generative AI in consumer digital offerings, and increased threats to information ecosystems and the democratic order. This year, The Athens Roundtable will convene in Washington, D.C., to examine the risks of foundation models and generative AI, as well as promising AI governance mechanisms to mitigate them. Presented with the support of GW's NIST-NSF Institute for Trustworthy AI in Law and Society (TRAILS) and the Elliott School of International Affairs. You can attend in person and online!
