Science & Engineering Hall

Every person in the GW Engineering community contributes to the fabric and culture of what makes us great and unique. As an institution of higher education, we often celebrate the achievements of our students and staff. However, without the tireless work of the GW Engineering administrative team, nothing would be possible. From our facilities to our technology to supporting events, the administrative team at GW Engineering keeps our school moving forward. Each month we will highlight one of the members of the admin team in our Local Hero editorial feature. Take the time to meet the people who are at the foundation of our school.

Each department within GW Engineering has its own team dedicated to supporting its community. In the Department of Computer Science (CS), Chris Heroman leads operations to ensure everything runs smoothly for students and faculty alike. Read on to learn more about April’s Local Hero, Chris Heroman!

Q: How long have you been working at GW and what is your position?
A: I have been with GW for 4 years now. Previously, I worked in the Registrar’s Office but am now Operations Manager in the CS Department.

Q: What led you to this career?
A: I’ve always enjoyed working in a university setting. I’m drawn to the idea of helping students grow and prepare for the next phase of their lives.

Q: Why did you choose GW?
A: Of all the D.C. area universities and colleges, GW reminded me the most of my alma mater, Tulane. I also love the dynamics of an urban university.

Q: What is one thing you wish you’d known when you started working at GW?
A: I only recently attended my first sports game, which was women’s basketball, and had a blast! I’m keeping my eye out for more games in the future!

Q: What is your favorite part about working at GW Engineering?
A: I love stumbling across the different students working on hands-on assignments. I’ve often come across RC cars outside my door! I also got the opportunity to see some of the high-tech equipment in the basement!

Q: Why would someone want to work at GW Engineering?
A: There is always some sort of exciting work going on! And we have a greenhouse in the building! And bees!

Q: What is your biggest work pet peeve?
A: I hate waiting for the elevators! They never work!

Q: What’s your ideal way to spend the weekend?
A: Weekend? What’s that? I have a new 7-month-old, so weekends are mostly spent recuperating! But I like to go to a museum or a concert in town!

Q: What's one of your favorite memories from the past year?
A: Bringing my baby to the office and introducing him to all my coworkers!

Q: Tell us something people don’t know about you.
A: My family has a near-monopoly on Flower Stores in Baton Rouge.
