National Advisory Council

The National Advisory Council meets regularly with the dean of the School of Engineering and Applied Science. Its members provide advice and resources to help enhance the educational programs and opportunities available to GW Engineering students.

Barbara has more than 30 years of experience in Department of Defense (DoD) information technology. She recently retired as senior cybersecurity policy advisor for the DoD Chief Information Officer, where she helped shape the Department’s future direction in cyber defense.  Earlier assignments with the Defense Information Systems Agency ranged from hands-on development of combat support systems to managing the acquisition of a large portfolio of cybersecurity capabilities. Barbara has a BS in applied mathematics and an MS in computer science from GW.  She has been serving on the GW Engineering National Advisory Council since 2016 and was a member of the 2018 Women in Engineering Task Force that investigated best practices at top engineering schools. In addition, Barbara was honored in 2019 with the GW Alumni Association Spirit Award for Outstanding Alumni Service.

Vice Chair, GW Engineering National Advisory Council

Anirudh Kulkarni is the founder and Chief Executive Officer of CVP, a 650-person strategic business and technology consultancy focused on healthcare, national security, and the U.S. public sector. A serial entrepreneur, Anirudh has more than thirty years of experience in business and technology consulting, strategy development, change management, and advanced technology strategy. His specialties include digital transformation, customer relationship management, operations and IT alignment strategies, organizational transformation, and operations research. His industry expertise lies in healthcare, media, and the public sector. Anirudh was previously a founder and Managing Director for Strategic Services at Answerthink (NASDAQ:HCKT), a private equity-backed Fortune 500 consulting and systems integration firm that went public in 1998. Prior to Answerthink, he led the commercial Media and Publishing consulting practice at SRA International. He was also the founder of Anthem Decision Support Systems, a software product company specializing in decision support and analytical tools for sales and marketing in the consumer products industry. In addition to the NAC, Anirudh serves on the Boards of the Professional Services Council, Food For Others, and the Northern Virginia Science Center. He is also an investor in multiple ventures and enjoys working with entrepreneurs to operationalize their vision. Anirudh received a BS in operations research and computational science (with honors), with concentrations in statistics and economics, and an MS in operations research and management science, both from The George Washington University.
